The issue of violent extremism has emerged as a potential challenge in Pakistan while challenging Islamabad’s conventional wisdom attached to its national countering violent extremism policy frameworks. A brief historical survey of Pakistan’s leading legislative efforts to overcome the issue of violent extremism suggest that the government’s plan for countering the rise of fanatical ideologies especially in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has become an inevitable challenge demanding the non-traditional approach of government authorities. In this way, this short study is an academic endeavor to highlight the issue of KP’s violent extremism, its challenging nature, and demands for Islamabad’s non-traditional policy responses.
